Hey Doc - wanted to check in on how we should manage Klaus' follow up. He was eating the k/d alright (mixed with less and less each day of his old food), but wasn't crazy about it. Today I started giving his some organic canned food mixed with k/d and a phosphate binder. I'm not sure if that's necessary at this point, but not knowing the phosphorus level of the new food I wanted to be safe (I'm going to contact them). At any rate, Klaus loves this combo and seems to be picking up a bit of weight. I've also been adding a vitamin B/potassium supplement to his food - hopefully the B will help with the anemia? Or does it only help with anemia caused by B deficiency?
I also got him a water fountain, which he seems to like - he's up there every hour or so getting a good drink. He seems to have a bit more energy than he's had, and a bigger appetite (that may be owing to the Nutri-Cal he had yesterday - it's hanging around here from one of Simone's episodes). I run some pedialyte through the fountain with the water to help with the dehydration.
Sounds like I'm going overboard, doesn't it? This is all easy stuff, though, so it doesn't feel crazy. Can you let me know if there are any bad combos here that I need to stop ASAP? Last thing I want to do is make it worse or cause a crisis - I just want to do what's reasonable to slow the progression of the kidney failure.
I'll try to call sometime tomorrow to see what we should do when to follow up. But it's a busy day of meetings - that's why it's all out here in writing, in case I don't connect with you. Thanks!
